Average Point Score (APS) 'best 3' per female student entered for at least one A level or applied A level (9576) Metric type

Help text
This is the Average Point Score (APS) 'best 3' grades of female students entered for at least one A level, applied single A level, applied double A level or combined A/AS level during 16-18 study, excluding critical thinking and general studies. This measure only includes A level students who have entered less than a total of size 1 in other academic, applied general and tech level qualifications. APS is calculated by points being allocated to each of a student's 16-18 exam results using a scoring system and a simple mean being calculated for each areas.
The point scores for level 3 qualification are assigned for each qualification by calculating GCE A level size equivalence using the Guided Learning Hours (GLH) from the Ofqual register and the base points for each grade from the level and grade structure. This enables the calculation of average level 3 point scores for 16 to 18 year old students at the end of advanced level studies.
Students are include in this measure if at the end of advanced level study they were entered for at least one academic qualification equal in size to at least half (0.5) an A level or an extended project (size 0.3), or applied general or tech level qualification during their 16-18 study.
The 16-18 school and college performance headline measures changed in 2016, as a result of previously announced government reforms to the way schools and colleges are held to account for their performance. Results for 2019/20 and 2020/21 includes grades awarded to students, when exams and assessments were cancelled, due to Covid-19 and are not comparable with earlier years.

Local authority, region and the total (state-funded sector) figures cover all state-funded mainstream schools, academies, free schools, city technology colleges (CTCs), state-funded special schools and FE sector colleges. Excludes pupil referral units (PRUs), alternative provision (AP), hospital schools, non-maintained special schools, other government department funded colleges, independent schools, independent special schools and independent schools approved to take pupils with special educational needs (SEN).

Values of 1 or 2, or a percentage based on 1 or 2 pupils are suppressed. Regional level figures are rounded down to the nearest 5.
