Proportion of people aged 85 and over entitled to Disability Living Allowance as a percentage of the total population aged 85 and over in the area. This figure is calculated using the mid-year ONS local population figures as an approximation for the population over 85. While DLA is typically given to people aged under 65, if a person continues to meet the requirements for the benefit, they can continue receiving it beyond age 65 if they had previously. Data post Q1 2018/19 are based on 2011 Geographies. Data previous to this are based on 2001 Geographies. Totals for DLA all entitled cases show both the number of people in receipt of an allowance and those with entitlement where the payment has been suspended, for example if they are in hospital.
